Job context
The Director of Investment and Growth is an Executive Director responsible for strategic asset management, capital investment, commercial property, the rural and agricultural estate, growth and development.
The postholder will provide leadership across BVT’s diverse asset base, ensuring that assets are actively strategically managed and invested in according to their purpose, performance, risk and long-term value.
They will inherit a substantially strengthened position in relation to housing investment and asset understanding: BVT has developed a 30-year housing investment plan, a detailed five-year programme, improving stock condition and performance data, and substantially completed housing asset appraisals.
The organisation has a modest but meaningful development pipeline, a well-managed commercial division and a rural and agricultural estate that is on track to performing against a range of agreed metrics.
The director will be responsible for maintaining confidence in this work, ensuring that it remains robust and deliverable and identifying opportunities to further optimise investment, performance and value.
A central purpose of the role is to shape and deliver BVT’s growth plan. This will include market rented housing and income-producing property investment, alongside social and affordable housing development where this supports BVT’s place-based role and strategic objectives.
In parallel, the director will lead BVT’s land and development opportunities, including the A38 and Woodbrooke Urban Village, Celebration Bournville and a range of small to medium-sized sites.
BVT does not have substantial uncommitted capital available for growth. The director will therefore need to identify realistic delivery routes through partnerships, external investment, public funding, capital recycling and carefully structured use of BVT’s land and assets.
The postholder will act as a strategic adviser to the Chief Executive, Executive Team and Board, providing clear advice on investment, asset performance, commercial strategy, growth, development, risk and long-term value.
They will lead a multidisciplinary directorate and work through capable heads of service and specialist managers. The role requires an executive who can set direction, delegate effectively and provide appropriate challenge, while engaging directly in complex, high-value or high-risk matters when required.
